Interventions
Interventions
Intervention can aim to promote the recovery of language functions, make it easier to take part in everyday activities, or help with specific tasks. How often we meet is decided together as part of our service agreement.
Sessions can be individual, with a family member, or in a group. We always work from your interests and your current plans. I also work with people who want to stay in employment, by adapting their workplace and identifying strategies that compensate well for their language difficulties.
Throughout the intervention, I clearly explain how each exercise relates to your goals. I also explain how different factors in your environment can affect your communication.
During the intervention, more specific goals are possible, including:
- Speaking: finding words, holding a conversation, explaining, talking things through.
- Reading: reading the news, articles, novels.
- Writing: writing text messages, emails, letters, essays.
- Augmentative and alternative communication: finding alternatives to speaking, reading or writing when communication is difficult.
- Voice: speaking with a better voice (louder, less hoarse, less tiring) and better understanding how the voice works.
- Swallowing: making eating and swallowing easier, and better understanding how swallowing works.
